Frequently Asked Questions
If you’ve never visited a Naturopathic Doctor before, you’re bound to have lots of questions or concerns. Below, you’ll find a list of several frequently asked questions. Connect with me today for more information.
What is Naturopathic Medicine? Naturopathic medicine is a form of alternative medicine that focuses on prevention and natural healing methods. It emphasizes the body's ability to heal itself and employs a holistic approach to wellness, considering the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of a person's health. In this way, our aim is to get to the root cause of what is going on and to create an individualized treatment strategy based on your own specific needs.
What can I expect from my first appointment? Initial visits range from 60-75 minutes in length, where we spend the bulk of this time reviewing your health history. After this, we create a detailed and individualized treatment plan based on your health goals and timeline.
What should I bring to my first appointment? Because we are interested in your full health picture, it is recommended to bring in any recent lab work (blood tests, imaging), as well as a list of current medications or supplements and their doses. I commonly get patients bringing in written questions as well, which is of course welcome too.
Is Naturopathic Medicine covered under OHIP? Naturopathic medicine is not currently covered under OHIP at this time, but is commonly covered under extended benefit plans. Check with your insurance provider.
Can naturopathic doctors run lab work? Yes! We commonly run "conventional" blood labs, alongside food sensitivity testing, hormone urine testing, and saliva testing. Pursuit of these lab tests is determined on an individual basis.
Is Naturopathic Medicine safe? While Naturopathic remedies may appear safe, they do have the potential to cause harm if used incorrectly. Self-prescribing can be very dangerous. ALWAYS check with a qualified health professional before taking any new supplements- even if social media says they are ok!
